Mark Clemmit at the FA

Nice package I shot about a day out with Football Reporter Mark Clemmit at the Football Association. Trevor Brooking bought me a cup of tea and we met Fabio Capello. Not bad for a couple of hours' filming. The edit did end up taking me all of a day though. In the end I think it was worth it. See what you think...

The voice of final score

Before Christmas I had the privilege to interview James Alexander Gordon, voice of the classified footballs scores for over 35 years on the BBC, first on Radio 2 and now Radio 5 live. A very charming man indeed, full of fantastic tales from his time in the music industry and broadcasting. Unfortunately I didn't get most of the music business stuff on tape and my tape got lost before I could do the final edit, so the interview below is essentially the best bits I could round up from what I had available.

Watch James Alexander Gordon talking about 35 years reading the classified football results on the BBC

Talking about comics

There's a brief burst of me about 8:34 into this clip from the Sci-Fi channel. Friend of mine, Paul Aston invited me along. I gave one of my "throw everything at it" soundbite jobs and they seem to have found something usable from it. It sounds suspiciously like I was using my "populist" broadcasting voice, not my "serious news" one. Must stop doing that.

Have got these two working almost as I would like, along with Twitter. Now just got to get Last.fm to do what I want and I'll have most of the Web 2.0 tools that I commonly use on this page. Then there's they rest of the site to overhaul from being static pages to something slightly more dynamic. In theory it can all be done through Movable Type but we shall see...

CSS hell

I've now added twitter updates and de.licio.us links. Twitter seems to be appearing nicely and was no problem. Getting the other one to line up is proving one of those finickety nightmares of tweekery. I have stopped trying after two days. Any ideas?

Going to add the Flickr badge as well when I get a moment - I know how to do that, it's relatively straightforward.

Re-jig of content

I've just swapped a couple of things around. Why on earth I need a "News" page when it's so infrequent is a question I have now answered by getting rid of it and stick my Movable Type content in the main slot.

I might need to do a bit more work on this idea to make the site a bit more consistent. It should also give me a chance to drop in more elements that I'm experimenting with/using, such as twitter, facebook and flickr.

I know that a few of my sites have become a bit stuck in the past. I'd forgottten just how much time it takes to do all those things when you've got a full time bunch of other paying stuff to deal with.

New cycling blog

I've launched a new cycling blog at http://www.atomicecho.com/cycling/ which will be my new project for the year, or at least until the Etape comes round again next year.

The idea is to write about all aspects of my cycling life, not just the one event. Mostly I've been writing about racing, or my attempts at it, but it will include kit reviews and advice eventually. Please check it out and try clicking on any ads that take your fancy as I'm also using it to see what sort of ad revenue I can get from a blog type site.

- An update on various bits of code and parts of the site
- Sort out EchoSound Location's myspace materials
- Start on getting sponsorship for the Etape site and for my ride
- Get a few paying clients or a new job

Etape blog launched

As part of my mission for this year to ride the Etape Du Tour for a charity called Get Kids Going! I've decided to write about the preparation and the experience. It's a way of promoting what I am doing and somewhere to direct people to read about it. It's also a sort of hub for my fundraising activities. I plan to raise at least 1500 GBP for the charity.

To find out more about the challenge I have set myself and how to sponsor me go to: www.atomicecho.com/etape. You might even like to read the blog too.

At the moment the page is using one of the standard templates available from blogger.com but once I get an afternoon free I plan to modify this to a custom one with my own design and style sheet.

Version 3 is up and running. A few bits still need filling in with the crayons but the new site has finally pestered me into almost finishing it.

Yes, it is a bit minimal and looks a bit like many blog sites, but that's what I wanted. There will be singing and dancing bits but the idea is to keep it simple and manageable. Yes, there are also some glaring omissions on the site which I will deal with when I have a moment.

I hope you like.

Version 3 nearly complete

Almost done with this redesign/freshen up. The concept is something very simple and unfussy which will be easy to maintain.

The news section is driven by blogger.com while the other pages are static, generated from the one template in Dreamweaver. I have been looking at other alternatives such as Typepad or Movable Type from Six Apart but as I am familiar with blogger now, or rather have figured out how to get it to work in a way which suits me I'm going to stick with it.

I will be considering Movable Type for a couple of possible projects I have coming up as it seems to offer a great deal of flexibility for a good price
